Guns don’t kill people. People kill people. Do you believe that?
Hi, this is Bob Barney again for The Plain Truth, and yesterday we listened to a 45-year-old broadcast from Garner Ted Armstrong about violence and how it starts in the home and how it has to do with how criminals are born.

Well, they’re really not born, they’re raised to be criminals by their parents most of the time. And today I wanted to go over the idea of gun control and my position that, and I’ve written several stories on this issue, that gun control laws actually kill innocent people. And the statistics pointed out, and I was going to go over a few of today, the largest ever survey of American gun owners finds that defensive use of firearms are quite common. The largest and most comprehensive survey of American gun owners ever conducted suggests that they use firearms in self-defense 1.7 million times a year. 1.7 million times people use their guns to defend themselves from being harmed. It also confirms that AR-15 style rifles and magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, frequent targets of the gun control people, are in common use for very lawful purposes and that many people use AR-15s with large capacitymagazines just for target practice.

In fact, 64% say they used it for target practice. And another 25% claim they use large capacity for home defense. It’s believed by many of these homeowners that if several people enter their home to do harm, a five-round clip may not be enough and so they want to have a larger round. And so the other fact that people misuse is that most violent crimes that kill people with guns are by pistols with less than 10 rounds and not more than 10 rounds. You know, it makes the headlines when you read about these people that go in with an AR-15 type rifle and they shoot 50 people or something like that, but that’s very infrequent. But do you know since 1959 that all mass shootings have occurred in gun-free zones? Not one has ever occurred in a place where guns were allowed to be carried openly? That’s a statistic that many people just don’t understand or want to believe.

Again, another study that was reported, and let me look this up in Investor’s Business Daily, and it was entitled, How Many Lives Are Saved by Guns? And Why Don’t Gun Controllers Care About This Fact? Believe it or not, the Obama administration in 2012 did a research, and the CDC did it, showed that upwards to three million people a year are saved from either they having a gun or another person comes to their fence having a gun. That statistic is quite telling in fact. And I brought up a graph here, I wanted to go over this. The number of homicides by firearms in the United States from 2006 to 2021, I think is quite revealing. In 2006, 10,225 people were killed by homicide with a gun. 2007, that was 10,129, just a few less. Now 2021, and the newspapers just love to report this, was the highest death rate, I’m sorry, 2020 was the highest death rate of any year in history in the United States of people using firearms in homicides. And that number was 13,620. 2021, that number came back to 12,520.So let’s say an average of 12,000 people a year, and that’s really if you average the last 20 years, it looks like less than 10,000 people a year are killed or murdered by the use of a gun. And again, 65%, according to this study, was killed with the use of a pistol that contained less than 10 rounds. That’s an interesting fact, because this is the stuff that you don’t realize.

Do you know that the Aurora, Colorado shooter that went into the movie theater and shot up the people with his gun that held more than 10 rounds, do you realize he went by five other movie theaters that did not have a sign up, guns not allowed, because he knew someone in there probably was carrying a gun? And that’s what he testified to. Just a fact that again, the major newscasters don’t want to tell you, and the newspapers don’t want to tell you, that people that do these shootings tend to go to places where they know people don’t have guns. So gun control laws, gun safe zones, are really free killing zones for the average American out there. So we’ll take that 10,000 people a year are murdered by the use of a gun, 65% of those are used by handguns. But we just saw that even the Obama administration’s CDC admitted that aminimum of 1.5 million lives were saved by citizens, not policemen, citizens owning guns, either in their own defense or the defense of others in public places. So 10,000 are murdered with guns, but 1.5 million people, and they admitted upwards to 3 million people, were saved by lawful gun-carrying citizens.I bet you didn’t know that. I bet you didn’t know the disparity between how many people were saved by a gun and how many people were killed by a gun. And by the way, on average, I believe about 50,000 people are killed by a car, in car accidents each year, 10,000 by gun murders.

Accidental shootings, by the way, of firearms, which is many times the people who are against firearms and they want to pass all these gun control measures, they failed to mention that it’s, I think, in 2018 was the last one that I saw was 228 people. How many people accidentally ran their own child or wife or husband over with their car back and out of the garage is probably more than 228 people. And yet, we don’t look at a car being the same as looking at a gun.But when you put a teenager with a gun and a teenager with a fast car, both are equally as dangerous. So again, you have to ask yourself, are the guns the problem here or are they the solution? And if you go by pure numbers, and that’s what I want to point out here, you go by pure numbers, we’ll take the minimum of 1.5 million people were saved by citizens having a gun, but 10,000 people were killed by other people having a gun. I would think that logically any sane person would say guns save more lives than they take. And that if more people owned guns, less people would die from guns. Because remember, most targeted shootings, all mass shootings are done in gun-free zones. So if you did away with gun-free zones, schools, for example, are a gun-free zone.

So anybody going to go into a school knows very well there’s nobody going to be shooting back at them. But if people knew, the perpetrators knew, that when they entered that school with their rifle, that maybe five or six teachers and maybe five or six armed security police force people were in that school with guns, I think they would not want to go to that school. It’s amazing to me in this country, we find it necessary to put armed guards in front of courthouses. We put the police. You can’t go in a courthouse without going through an airport-style gun detector, metal detector, with two or three sheriffs there watching you, pulling everything out of your pockets in order to go to a courtroom. You can’t go into Congress with a gun.Congressional people can, but you don’t have citizens being able to carry guns in the Capitol. So my point being is we want to protect our politicians and our judges and our corrupt legal system more than we want to protect our kids, because we want to keep our kids defenseless and think that just by putting up a sign, this is a gun-free zone, that someone who really wants to do harm to these children with a big gun or several guns, you know, you could take five pistols in your pockets with 10 rounds a piece and you can do a lot of damage. You don’t need an AR-15.

In fact, if somebody was coming at me where I live with an AR-15, I would laugh because my seven millimeter magnum would knock them down before they even knew what hit them. But the real assault weapon are long-range rifles that can do a lot of harm for somebody coming from a long way off. And at close range, even Joe Biden admitted in a previous interview that the best arm you can have when you are faced with a person at your door with a pistol or a rifle is to use a shotgun. If you have a double-barrel, 12-gauge shotgun, and there are four or five assaulters at your door trying to break your door in, and they break it in and they meet two barrelfuls of shotgun pellets coming at them, every single one of them will be disarmed instantly. So in close range, an AR-15 does you no good. In fact, the best weapon you can have is a good double-barrel, 12-gauge shotgun. And that will deter a whole lot of people from coming into your home. And nowadays, you have shotguns that hold five, six, seven shotgun shells, and you can pump them as fast as you want to do it. And you can stop any intruder from coming in your home with a shotgun. But again, we do not seem to want to protect our children like we want to protect our politicians. And you have to say, why would that be? Is it because the politicians make the laws and they want to protect themselves, but they don’t give a hoot about your kids? Because that’s what it seems to me. It seems like the people passing these gun control legislation rules and laws really are trying to protect themselves and not trying to protect you or your children.

I’m not against that policy at all.

Again, I will go back, and I’m going to say this figure a lot, and I’m going to bore you to death with this figure. The Obama CDC in 2012 said at least 1.5 million people were saved from harm or death due to a citizen bearing a gun of some sort. And if that fact doesn’t make you think twice about gun ownership and what’s going on in this world with guns and gun control, then I’m afraid you’re just a useful idiot for this government, because gun control has an evil purpose.Gun control and gun registration, honestly, is to find out who legally owns guns, because it’s never going to tell you who illegally owns guns. And I would venture to say that, and I didn’t look up this statistic, but I will put my marbles on the line here and say, I bet you that 98 percent of all gun violence that resulted in the 10,000 deaths a year are by illegally owned guns, not legally owned guns. Now, some of these mass shooters, as we have found out, actually legally possess these guns, and in states that had great strict gun laws, in the states that seem to not have as forceful gun laws, some of the western states especially, you know, the murder rates are quite low.Everybody compares the cities today to Dodge City, Kansas, or the Old West, but you want to know what? In the Old West, every single man out there carried a rifle, a shotgun, or a pistol, or all three. And the actual violence if you take out Indian wars, the actual violence in the West is on your TV set. It wasn’t in reality. In reality, do you know that until the O.K. Corral, Wyatt Earp had killed one person in all the timethat he was a deputy in Dodge City? Think about that. Wyatt Earp’s choice of weapons to disarmpeople and not to kill them was his gun, yeah. He used to knock them over the head with his pistoland knock them out.

He didn’t want to shoot and kill people. You know, we have a term today called the Wyatt Earp Syndrome, where cops come in with their mustache, and they put a gun on, they put a badge on, and they think they’re Wyatt Earp, and they go around shooting people. And that does happen, by the way. There are bad cops. I have a whole series on the Plain Truth Message Board about police brutality. When a drunk in New York City gets shot 97 times, there’s 97 bullets in him from 10 cops shooting at him because they thought he had a gun.If that’s not overkill, I don’t know what is. That is the Wyatt Earp Syndrome in reality. But the truth of the matter is that where you have armed citizens with guns, you are safer than where you havegun-free zones.

And that is why I wrote this story many years ago now. We repeat it from time to time on The Plain Truth, why gun control laws end up killing more people than they intend to save. If America was disarmed, and honest gun-toting citizens who do no harm to anybody but save people didn’t have their guns, then we can assume that from 1.5 to 3 million people a year would fall victim to gun violence. And I would say that the deaths by guns would be in the hundreds of thousands, at least, if people did not have guns. Then we got to get back to this show we showed yesterday with Garnerted Armstrong, which was 45 years old. And some of it is outdated, but a lot of it was the case.Because where do the violent gun offenders who do the murders come from? Well, I doubt they come from, on average, they do not come from upper-middle-class people. Oh, yeah, we see these stories, this kid, his father is a doctor and his mother is a lawyer, and he goes into his school and he shoots 10 kids and nobody could understand why.

Then you see pictures of this kid and he’s got this black overcoat and he’s got tattoos and he looks like a criminal or he looks like a skinhead.I mean, there was telltale signs that this kid was not raised very properly and that’s why he did it.

Well-raised kids in good, loving family homes where there’s a God present in that home do not go out, for the most part, in killing people. Who are killing these 10,000 people a year are mainly street thugs fighting amongst themselves over drugs or robbing innocent people for money to buy their drugs. And they are born into a life of poverty, of hopelessness, of no God, and no hope. And so they learn by watching their TV shows and movies that the gun makes them a big man. And they can go, and at first they don’t plan on killing people, I don’t think.

Usually they plan on robbing a liquor store or robbing some old couple in their home. About a month and a half ago in a little town that I have my paint plant, a couple was assaulted and the woman was killed with a gun and the man was shot several times, but he lived. First he was reported dead, but he turned out he lived. They were in their 70s, well-known people, and they haven’t solved the crime yet, but I guarantee you that it has something to do with drugs. Either family members that knew they had money in the house that needed drug money, but most likely people just by chance looking at a house, looking at the people, knowing they were old and fragile and an easy target, and realizing there’s going to be enough money in that house in some way, in some form, to be able to go down to the street down there, it’s called Pocahontas they’re going to go down there and buy their drugs, and that’s the simple reality of everything. But guns save many more lives than guns take, and that’s a statistic you’re just not going to hear on your evening news, you’re not going to read in the New York Times. But you know, this one quote I read in this story from Reason Magazine, because of the large amount of people saved by guns, they pointed out a kind of a funny thing.

The New York Times, who loves gun control laws, does not have a sign out in front of their building, this is a gun-free zone, no one in here has a gun. They don’t boast that fact, because you want to know what? I guarantee you there are armed guards in the New York Times, but they want to protect themselves. It was very funny a few years back, I think it was probably more than a few years back, Tom Selleck was assaulted by an actress, and I can’t remember her name now, but that he promoted gun ownership. And how violence was the result of his beliefs, that people were killing peoplebecause of Tom Selleck’s beliefs about being able to own guns. And then he asked her a simplequestion, do you have a bodyguard? Yes, I do.Does he have a gun? Of course, but he’s trained to use it. So it was okay for her to be protected by a gun, but it’s not okay for you to be protected by a gun. Now, I do agree that guns that are illegally purchased and are legally carried by thugs in the street, once they are found out, should be confiscated and destroyed.

We have to get guns out of the hands of the wrong people. But you know you do that, you know how you do that? You do that with strict laws.

You do that with being a lawful country and not a lawless country. And we’ll get back to God again here, because God is a God of laws. There is no freedom without the law.And these ministers who want to preach that Jesus abolished the law are doing nothing but practicing the lawlessness that we are witnessing in this country today, which is bringing this country down to its knees. And if it wasn’t for the Americans owning guns, taking really the responsibility away from the police to protect them, as you should, it’s your duty to protect you and your family and your loved ones first, because you cannot always depend on government to save you. Unfortunately, we have not come to that conclusion in modern America today. But if it wasn’t for these people defending themselves, their family, their loved ones, or others, like in restaurants, we would have more gun violence than we’ve ever seen. Isn’t it strange that the cities that have the strictest gun control laws have the highest murder rates? And they always say, oh, that’s because they get guns from states that have no gun laws, and they transport them illegally into the city. That’s bull. That’s absolutely bull. They get it from guns that make the rounds amongst street thugs.

They sell them to each other, and they go back and forth, and they rob and steal, and they rob a house, and they find some guns, they take those guns and use those in crimes. That’s never going to be stopped by any law. The idea, they’re criminals. Criminals don’t obey the law.But criminals do obey the law of nature. And the law of nature is, I watched, you saw the interview, if you watched yesterday’s show with Gardner Ted Armstrong, how every single person in jail admitted they would not go into a house if someone, they knew someone had a gun in that house. You know, most burglaries, they try to go into the house when nobody is there, because especially the places where they believe the person may have a gun, they don’t want to go into a house that they’re going to be met with a gun in their face and shot.So again, the more the government claims they’re trying to help you by disarming you, they’re lying to you, like they lied to you about COVID, like they lied to you about Vietnam, like they’re lying to you about Afghanistan and Ukraine. Your government lies to you. And unfortunately, too many of us have our eyes closed to it.And we’re listening to the wrong news. Hopefully, we’ll find that article and we’ll publish it again on the Plain Truth that I wrote about how gun control laws kill innocent people. And they do.And there’s just nothing else that you can say about it. The facts and figures prove it. Two-thirds of the respondents who reported owning AR-15 style rifles said they use them for recreational target shooters.I already told you 64 percent. They’re not planning on going to a neighborhood theater and shooting people up. Why should they not have the gun they want to have? They’re not going to break the law. It’s just unbelievably how naive Americans have become. You go back to the old West days that, you know, Hollywood has really not done a good job promoting. You go back to those days and the gun violence wasn’t what you see on TV or in the movie theaters.

It just wasn’t there because too many people had guns and too many people shot back. You know, most of the so-called gun toters or what do they call them, gunslingers in the West, they shot people in the back. They didn’t face each other off and have a shootout. That was, happened, but it didn’t happen very often. You know, a bounty hunter would shoot to, he went out to look for a criminal. There was a five thousand dollar reward, dead or alive. He shot him in the back. He didn’t face him down to shoot him. It was just as easy to shoot him in the back and collect the reward. So, the violence of gun deaths in the West in the 1800s was not like it’s portrayed in your movies. The true Wild West is in New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles. Democrat-run cities, by the way. That’s the plain truth of the matter. And I just wanted to just comment on yesterday’s show, which I think was excellent. 45 years ago and it’s still on target to this day.And it ended with the statement that murderers are not born to do that. They’re raised in their home to do that. And most people who commit murder are from poverty-stricken homes with no morals, no guidance, alcohol and drug abuse. And that’s the problem. Many of the mass shooters out there, especially the teenagers who go into the schools and shoot, their problem is Ritalin and the drugs they’re on and not, again, the guns they have. Because these people are addicts, made addicts by their doctors, by giving them medicines that should not be given to them. And in every case, when you see these mass shootings amongst kids in schools, it’s always that these kids were on, they were outcasts in their school and they were on all kinds of mind-altering medications prescribed by some psychologist or a doctor, which does more harm to a child than anything else. So in conclusion, I want you to go to the plain truth, and we’ll have these stories up there. And just open your eyes and realize, again, your government today is no longer your friend.

They’re lying to you, they want to disarm you, and they want to turn us into a dictatorship. What’s happening is a slow progression into America being overtaken by the alien amongst us, Leviticus 26, Deuteronomy 28, if you want to look it up, and taking control and making sure we can’t shoot back. There is a reason the Second Amendment was written in into the Constitution by our forefathers, and it wasn’t to go have a gun to go hunt a deer. It was guns for self-protection and actually protection against your own government. They understood the tyranny that government can bring, and they understood that the American people had to have safety, a safety net. And the Bill of Rights is a safety net that was given by our Forefathers. And one of those important rights that we have is the right to bear arms. And by the way, it says the right of the people to bear arms shall not be infringed. And when you pass laws infringing the right of the people to own firearms, you are playing into the hands of evil people with evil purposes and evil intents.

And that’s the plain truth. And this is Bob Barney. I’m out of time today saying thank you for listening, and I hope you tell other people to listen to this broadcast. And if you agree with me or not, at least hear what I have to say, because I think not too many people are telling the truth as it should be, and you’re being lied to, and you’re not being lied to by me.
