  • Hi, Bob Barney with The Plain Truth today, and this is a short one, but we’re going to talk about President Trump. Yesterday was on Squawk Box, and I watch CNBC quite a bit. I think it’s probably one of the better business channels, although lately I’ve not been happy with them as well. I do watch a little bit of Bloomberg, but almost never watch Fox Business any longer.
  • 0:25Fox Business is really a paid commercial for Donald Trump’s presidency. I supported Donald Trump. I supported him for the last three elections, and I still wish he would go back to what he was in the first term. But I don’t need to listen to a bunch of cheerleaders masquerading as news people when they talk about Trump and Trump’s policies.
  • 0:45Now, like I said yesterday, he was on Squawk Box and one of the biggest defenders of tariffs, which I’m not, one of the biggest defenders of tariffs and Donald Trump’s policies in general and the idea how Wall Street is remaining resilient to all of these tariffs and things, thinking the economy is getting better, is Joe Kernan. And if you watched a program, you know that Joe Kerning is the elder person there. He’s
  • 1:15probably around my age, maybe a little younger, but he’s been around a while. He’s quite conservative, I will admit that. He’s not like the average CNBC host, which seems to be barely out of high school. Some of them seem so young, and sometimes I find it hard to listen to people that young. But anyway, Donald Trump yesterday doubled down on his claims that the labor statistics from the BLS was rigged against him and he was kind of challenged by, of all people, Joe Kernan. Trump said it’s highly, quote, it’s a
  • 1:52highly political situation, it’s totally rigged, smart people know it, people with common sense know it. Well, the problem is that may not be the case and Joe Kernan brought that out and he’s the co-host, like I said, of Squawk Box, and he said it’s a big leap for him to say that the agency’s job revisions were based on statistical changes and not being rigged. And he also noted that the BLS relies on a very antiquated system of mailed-in surveys to Americans to complete employment figures. And it probably is
  • 2:24very antiquated. Everything this government seems to do, including our air traffic controllers, are quite antiquated. But anyway, Kernan added that Trump’s decision to fire the woman would invite criticism about his replacement or her replacement, and I agree with that. And critics are going to say, hey, he’s just picking somebody that’s gonna do whatever he tells them to do. And foreign
  • 2:49investors are gonna start looking at America as a banana republic. Well, Trump defended his move with Kernan and said, oh, I think somebody says that Commissioner’s not involved. I don’t want to get in any arguments with anybody. Why should I? She seems to be a nice woman, but when we say that nobody was involved and it wasn’t politics wasn’t involved, give me a break.” And during his appearance on CNBC he also falsely claimed, and I brought this out last week
  • 3:18if you didn’t hear me, that in 2024, just two weeks before the election, the BLS gave a false job numbers in 2024 to help Kamala Harris beat Donald Trump. And that’s just not the case. It didn’t happen. In reality, the Labor Department in August of 2024, about a month and a half, two months before the election, actually when I’m looking at my notes, two months before the election, actually when I’m looking at my notes, three months before the election, it actually announced that the Biden job numbers were not accurate and they did something a lot worse to
  • 3:56Biden and Kamala Harris than they did to Donald Trump if they were trying to push for them to be elected. They had a new downturn, not of a hundred and forty thousand like what happened to Trump here, but of eight hundred and eighteen thousand jobs that were thought to have occurred that did not occur. So they actually put a knife in the back of the Biden administration and Kamala Harris’s chance of election when they revised the largest single revision downward of election numbers in the history of the
  • 4:34United States. Trump has always had a pretty good Teflon factor, and a lot of his mega followers will listen to him and believe whatever he says says even when it’s provably wrong. But I think concerning, I think, his mess up of how he’s handling the Epstein affair and how he’s doing these tariffs and wait till the results of these tariffs finally hit us around Christmas time and it won’t hurt me any because I don’t follow Christmas
  • 5:02but it’s going to hurt a lot of out there, when all of a sudden, they’re gonna find out a lot of the toys and a lot of the things they planned on buying just simply are not gonna be available. I found this bad news out yesterday myself, when a very important product that I get from South Korea,
  • 5:19that I knew was gonna have a 25% tariff now, because that was the new agreement but I was hoping the person in America that carries it was going to be able to get me this particular resin that I need to make a one-of-a-kind epoxy sealer and they told me we have none in the country. You don’t? How long is it going to take it to get it from Korea? Well we have none in Korea. Why is that? Well because Korea when they didn’t have a deal with Donald Trump, they didn’t know if they should even make it or not if America was gonna
  • 5:48you know give them a hundred or a hundred and fifty percent tariff like China. And it seems like this particular epoxy resin that I buy, and I’m the only other person, only one other company buys it, and they make it for a Boeing aircraft. And so Boeing wouldn’t even have this epoxy resin. And since they didn’t sell it in anywhere else in the world, they didn’t make any.
  • 6:10And so I said, well, what’s gonna happen now? Well, now that there’s a trade agreement, they’re gonna make a batch next week and you’ll probably get it before November. Well, that doesn’t help me for our Labor Day sale we’re gonna have.
  • 6:22This is the thing I think more and more Americans are gonna have. I’ve talking to people, one person who does paint equipment out in California, I’m sorry, was telling me how many crops are just sitting in the fields
  • 6:35when he goes to pick up equipment to paint them, he sees acres and acres of squash and all kinds of other vegetables just sitting there rotting because no one’s showing up to pick them. We’re gonna see some problems here and I think the Teflon factor for Teflon Don is gonna start wearing off when people start not getting what they want. Anyway, that’s my 7-11 short for this morning
