Modern Fruits and Vegetables: Junk Food? (Transcript)

“… we are cutting corners, and the victims are both you and me who are eating this junk…junk that we think are actually fresh fruits and vegetables and there is very little nutrition in them…and as a result we spend tens of thousands of dollars taking vitamin supplements…” – Bob Barney

You most likely are like a lot of us who are trying to do the right thing and eat the right foods and sometimes think that these foods are just not doing what they’re supposed to be doing…does that sound like you?

Hi, this is Bob Barney with the 7:11 Minute Short and on the Plain Truth Today broadcast at 7:11 in the morning most of the time yet sometimes may be replayed at different times during the day…but there was a documentary out just last week and it was called The Industry Scandal, The Loss of Nutrients and this is what they had to say and I think it should be a wakeup call for a lot of Americans out there trying to do the right things and eat the right foods.

It seems like modern farming practices, which is something I am quite familiar with as I grew up on a farm…so I know some of this stuff already. I know which of the practices that we used to do back in the 1960s and 70s are not being done today. Anyway, modern farming practices and seed hybrids have significantly reduced the nutrient content in our fruits and vegetables that we consume today over the past 60 years, with an average decline of 16% calcium in the same foods that were tested 60 years ago. In addition to that, we have 27% less vitamin C and 50% less iron in said same foods, which are all very important for bodily functions. The nutrient decline in produce contributes to an increased risk of all kinds of deficiencies of minerals.

This is why you see all of the various advertisements, you know, for balance of nature and amino 150 and stuff like that because even though I think a lot of these products are not worth spending any money on, the plain truth is that we are not getting out of our food supply the nutrients that we used to get. Therefore, we do probably have to take some supplementation in order to fulfill the needs that our bodies have. The evidence is quite clear, the food on our plates today is just a shadow of what the foods were just 60 years ago.

The filmmakers began their investigation at the French Academy of Agriculture, where they tested the same exact fruits and vegetables that were tested back in 1960. They said, quote, we discovered a little known fact, fruits and vegetables have lost some of their vitamins and minerals over the years.

Take green beans for example, in 1960 they contained 65 milligrams of calcium for every 100 grams…now they only contain 48.5 milligrams. The same thing for vitamin C as they went on to say, today 19 milligrams for every 100 grams versus 13.6 today, a 35% loss in vitamin C. \

So, what is causing this decline?

Well, as the study points out, much of what’s causing this are the modern GMO foods infiltrating our food supply that if you’re not buying organic, you are in fact consuming. They want to make sure that foods A, last longer on the shelves and B, produce bumper crops.

I know locally where peanuts are grown in Virginia that just 50 years ago, the number of peanuts per acre was five times less than the number of peanuts they get today out of the GMO peanuts that they are growing. Another thing that they want to make sure of is that the fruits and vegetables that head to your grocery shelves can last four or five times longer than the fruits and vegetables shelf life of 60 years ago.

How do they do that?

They genetically modify the seeds and there are only a few seed companies in the world, by the way, they genetically modify the seeds where the produce or vegetables or fruits that they produce end up with sometimes up to a third less vitamins and minerals. You see, they’re willing to sacrifice your health in order to make the same produce last four or five times longer on the shelves. One thing they noticed for example, was that certain fruits and vegetables lasted only four or five days back in 1960 on a store shelf or display where today they can last up to three weeks.

If you’re like me and you’re buying cantaloupes and I’m buying organic cantaloupes at that, and they are ripe as can be and yet…they have no taste! No taste whatsoever! Watermelon, no taste. The fruits and vegetables that I consume every day because I’m trying to eat healthy meals, have no taste.

There are many reasons for this.

It’s not just the GMO factor, it’s also the way they grow crops today. They’re doing no-till farming for one. They are not using cow manure and chicken manure because if they do, they will have to plow, and you have to bury it deep. Or guess what happens? You will get E. coli in your vegetables and your fruits if you don’t. So, they practice no-till farming.

They use all chemical fertilizers as well which are very costly, and they are very dangerous to consume for the most part. The nutrition in the soil is so lacking and it just was not lacking 60 years ago.

Even Robert Kennedy Jr. in a broadcast the other day said how the land doesn’t even lay foul like the Bible says it should on the seventh year. We are overtaxing our soil, and our soil is coming back and giving us inferior crops and inferior nutrition. This is the result of this modern agriculture that we’re in. Big pharma and big agriculture and big business in general are killing us by what they’re feeding us.

This is one of the topics we are committed to covering on Your Health Today as much as possible. The story, the entire story that I’m quoting was posted yesterday, actually Sunday on our Your Health Today. You can get to Your Health Todayy from theplaintruth.com as there is a sub heading on the title bar underneath The Plain Truth Banner.

What we do today to bring food to the table is that we grow produce all over the world and we are cutting corners. That makes you and me the victims and we are all the ones who are eating this junk that we think is comprised of fresh fruits and vegetables where there is very little nutrition in these foods. And like I mentioned already, we are spending thousands of dollars taking vitamin and mineral supplementation from ads we see on TV. It’s because we simply realize from our own experiences that we are not getting the foods or the nutrition from the foods or the taste from the foods that we once got. And I have news for you, if you eat most of the fruits and vegetables today, they have a just a fraction of the taste that they had just 25-35 years ago.

So that’s what I have to say today in my little, short audio on what’s wrong with our food supply on theplaintruthtoday.com or from The Plain Truth. I appreciate everyone who listens and for planning on tuning in this afternoon and tonight for another edition of the Plain Truth Today broadcast. Thank you for listening. Bye-bye.
