Americans in Trouble. That’s today’s topic. This is Bob Barney for The Plain Truth Today, brought to you by theplaintruth.com, and I want to talk about a subject that I think that some people are mentioning, I think everybody is feeling, but not too much really is being talked about because so many Americans are deeply in trouble in many ways, and simply, we do not have a society, we do not have leaders, we do not have a government that is willing to stop and understand the problem and do something to correct the problem, and therefore, what do we have? We have Americans that are on drugs, we have Americans that are on alcohol or other vices, we have Americans in debt and in poverty.
I did a show a few weeks ago where I mentioned that the average American now owes something like $8,000 on their credit card, and credit card debt for all Americans. This is not what is charged to a credit card, this is credit card debt. A show I did a few weeks ago attributed that there is now $1 trillion worth of credit card debt that is not paid on a monthly basis.That means for the average person that is holding money balances on their credit card, there’s a trillion dollars gaining interest for the banks at somewhere in the 20 to 29, 35 percent interest rate, and it is just killing the working American trying to get ahead, and they’re using their credit card now because they can’t afford anything, and they use their credit card just to make ends meet, and then comes this bill, and because they’re not paying it all off every month, then comes the interest on a bill, and I think everybody has looked at their credit card, even the people that pay it all off. Let’s say you have like a $900 credit card bill, and it’ll say your monthly payment, minimum payment to avoid any trouble would be, they’ll say $94, and you look down, it will take 14 years to pay off this debt, and you will pay, you know, $6,000 for an $800 credit card debt over the 16 years. This is what one trillion dollars worth of debt is, and if you take the total debt of all Americans, this is their mortgage payments, their credit card payments, their student loan payments, and other creditors that they owe, bank loans that they owe, it turns out it’s about $17 trillion.
That is half of what the United States government’s debt is at about $38 trillion. So you take the government debt, you take corporate debt, and you take private debt, and you’re looking at about $55 trillion worth of debt. Now, the government also has what’s called unfunded liability debt, and this is the debt that they’ve promised to pay out in the future.You know, when you start collecting Social Security, and you live an extra 15 years, you’re not getting all that money up front. They’re paying you over 15, 16, whatever, how many years you live. They’re paying you a monthly stipend for whatever your Social Security check is, say it’s $22, $2,500 a month or more.Well, that’s what’s called unfunded future liability debt. If you add all the debt of all the living Americans today, and the ones that are going to collect Social Security in the future, and Medicare payments, that figure for government debt goes from $38 trillion to $110 trillion. And there are reports, there are some economists who claim that the true American debt, if you take corporations, American citizens, and the American government, it approaches about $150 to $170 trillion.
That is more money than printed in the entire world. And when countries get this far in debt, they start printing money, and they start what we call in the nice term, quantitative easing. All it means is you’re printing money.And we find ourselves, or governments that do this, find themselves in the position Germany was in the 1920s, when it literally took a wheelbarrow full of German marks, Deutschmarks, I believe they called them, and to buy a loaf of bread at a grocery store. The inflation was running at about 3000% a month. And I actually own, I collect coins and dollar bills around the world, but mainly American, but I actually own a $10 million silver coin minted by Germany in the 1920s.So one ounce of silver, which was worth about a dollar in cost back in 1925, its face value was 10 million Deutschmarks, which was, I think, about $7.5 million. And I also have a, I believe it’s a 20 million, I’m sorry, yeah, a $20 million bill that was printed in the Weimar Republic of Germany, that was for $20 million. It cost a half a cent to make one of those bills.And it was, the inflation was so bad in Germany, this is what led to Adolf Hitler. This is what got us into World War II. The debt of Germany was so bad from World War I, they tried to inflate their way out of that debt, and they destroyed their republic, and they destroyed their economy.
And what did they get? They got Adolf Hitler, and they got the Nazis, and they got totalitarianism, and they got the trains running on time, and they got people back to work, and everybody started living good. But they also got World War II and total annihilation by the United States government and the Allied powers at the end of World War II. And that was the result of what happens when a country gets into debt.And it’s a very sad story. But I also, just on a side note, I have a $1 trillion bill. It’s a real bill.It’s $1 trillion, Zimbabwe, is that how you pronounce it? A country in Africa. They print a trillion dollar bill, because their inflation was running at one time around 300% a week. And so they just printed worthless money.You laugh when you think about it, but many governments have done this throughout history. The Romans did it. You know, there is a coin collector.It has a pretty good YouTube. I find it and put it up on YouTube, one of these shows for the podcast. This collector of ancient coins started analyzing certain Roman coins based upon the year they were minted.And what they noticed was certain coins, let’s say they were supposed to have an eighth of an ounce of silver. And when they find earlier coins like Julius Caesar’s or Augustus Caesar’s or even up the Nero, where Rome was still doing very well financially because they were conquering the world, they had the full one eighth ounce of silver in that denarius or whatever coin we’re talking about. But he noticed after collecting many of the Roman coins at a later time, towards the time when the Roman Empire was collapsing, that some of the coins he started weighing was dramatically less weight than they were supposed to be.
So what was that going on? The government was cheating the people out of the value of the coins that they thought had a certain intrinsic value that it did not. And so you can see from time immemorial that governments have cheated its own citizens on coinage, on dollar bills, and on everything. And as Ronald Reagan so accurately pointed out, what results is inflation, and inflation is the cruelest tax on any poor person there is.Rich people, as I said this before, rich people love inflation because they’re always investing. And when you invest in something, you want it to inflate in value, and that’s how you make your money. You don’t care about the inflation of food or groceries or gasoline or heating oil because you have really a fixed expense when you’re a billionaire.You’re only going to spend so many millions of dollars a year, and your investments are in the billions. And so the inflation for your investments far outweigh what inflation costs you to live when you’re very, very rich. However, when you’re very, very poor, you don’t have investments.You’re not making money on anything in gold or on Wall Street, or most people don’t even have a 401k at their work. And so what happens to them, the inflation causes them just to go into their pockets deeper, to be able to buy groceries and food and gasoline for their cars and school clothes for their kids. And then they find out they can’t even afford to do that.
And what do they do? Well, they start putting it on their credit card. And when the credit card bill comes due, for a month or two, they pay the whole bill off so they don’t pay interest. And then after a while, you know, it keeps building up and building up, and all of a sudden it gets a $1,400 bill, and they expected it to be a $600 bill, and they had $700 saved.And so they put $700 on a $1,400 bill, and the next month comes, there’s another $800 new dollars, there’s $700 old dollars, but it’s not $1,500 now, it’s around $1,800 because of all the interest on the money you didn’t pay off on the old balance. And that begins the round and round spiral down into debt and poverty that so many middle class people and lower class people are finding themselves in today. The economy is just one of the troubles that America’s facing. The next trouble we’re facing is vices like drugs and alcohol. And if this show sounds a little different than others, I’m doing this.I’m on location. We’re in Florida for several weeks, one for our anniversary. We were from Florida where we were married in Florida and Hollywood Beach, but also because we have a business down here and we haven’t visited in a long time, and we’re doing work down here.So these are being done in a little room where we’re staying on the beach. So it won’t sound the same as when I’m in my made-up studio in the basement of my house at home. But going on to the idea, Americans are facing another crisis, and that is the crisis of drugs and alcohol and all sorts of vices.And that can be gambling. We have a big gambling problem in America, and it just come to light with the NBA scandal, with the mafia involved with fixing games. Do you think it’s an NBA alone scandal? Do you don’t think that’s the same going on in football, baseball? You don’t think that might be going on in auto racing like in NASCAR? You don’t think when you have tens of millions of dollars bet on a particular race driver to win or a team to win in baseball or football or basketball or hockey that the mafia is not somewhere there manipulating the odds of that sporting event so they can make a lot of money in gambling, and they can fix games to make sure that whatever they pick to win comes in tenfold, and whatever they have to pay out goes out with little profit, if any profit whatsoever.
This is how they make their money. And it’s very easy to see why some of these sports stars would go along with it. I know a lot of people think, why would they want to go along with it? They’re making 20 million dollars a year.Why would they want to bother with the mafia to try to make extra money? Well, it’s not just the money part of it. There is also the family part of it. And when you ask, what do you mean by that? Well, someone who grew up where I grew up in New Milford, Connecticut and a suburb of really New York City, and we saw a lot of mafia action back in the day, you just don’t decline an invitation from a mobster to fix a game and say, no, I’m not going to do it.There are people in the past that have done it, and they’ve went to the police, and they are heroes, that there’s movies written about them. But for the most part, most people are afraid to stand up to someone who’s threatening your wife, your kids, and everything around you. When you know that they can pull off what they promise they’re going to do to you, they can pull it off, and they can cause all kinds of harm to you and your family and to your children and to everything you love.And so there is also another motivation to going along with these fixing of games or fixing the even of races, and that is preserving your own life or the life of your family. And you say, well, if they would go just to the FBI, they would get some kind of protection. Well, it’s pretty hard for a multimillion dollar basketball player or football player or race car driver or baseball player to get witness protection when they’re out playing games every day, and there would be easy targets for an assassin to kill them or their family.
And so you got to understand that these people have a reason to fear. And do you think in today’s society that too many people are going to trust going to the police or the FBI, who just maybe is involved and is corrupt by the mafia, as is other people? You know, you watch the old movie, The Godfather or other movies, you could see that they had their fingers in every aspect of politicians, of judges, of newspapers. All of this stuff was controlled through fear tactics.You played the game or you ended up like Jimmy Hoffa somewhere where they can’t find your body forever or that of your children or that of your wife. So if you really understand the fear factor in all this, it’s easy to see why we’re having this problem. And we’re having a problem because gambling has become another vice, like alcohol, like drugs, that is destroying the life of thousands, if not millions, of Americans.Probably it is millions of Americans, you add it all together. Alcohol was a scourge at one time. Now prohibition is not the answer.We tried that in the 1920s and all it did was make the mafia powerful and rich. You’re not going to take away a vice from somebody who wants a vice. But at the same time, if you make society better for people, and a president does what he’s supposed to do, and a Congress does what they’re supposed to do, and people do what they’re supposed to do, and that’s mainly go back to God in prayer, start reading their Bible, start practicing the Ten Commandments that have not been done away with, including the Sabbath.
If people try to change what they’re doing and live a biblical moral life, you want to know what? The Mexicans can send all the drugs up here they want, or the Venezuelans, or the Chinese can make all the fentanyl they want, but nobody’s going to use it. There’s no market for it. The reason there’s a problem is there is a market for it.And I got news for you. If people want something, they’re going to take it. And the Mexicans, you stop them from doing it, then it’ll come in from somewhere else.You stop the China from doing it, it’ll come from somewhere else. We’ve had different drugs over the years. I’m 70 years old.I remember LSD, that’s not a problem today, but it was a problem in the 60s. Heroin, cocaine, marijuana, fentanyl now. There’s always something that’s going to come along bigger, better than before, and people are going to get hooked.Same with alcohol. And regulation is not the answer. The answer is moralization of this country.
We are becoming an immoral country, something many people do not want to admit. Many churchgoers don’t want to admit, but many churchgoers are messing around on their spouses. They’re addicted to drugs or even prescription medication.Rolling Stones had a very famous song, Mother’s Little Helper, talking about women, housewives that took uppers and downers all day long in order to get through the day. Well, that was a problem in the 60s. It’s not gone away.And as America becomes more and more in trouble with finances, with debt, with lack of jobs, of good jobs, a lack of a future. And what ends up happening is people decide they are going to start doing things to make them feel good. And that’s drugs, alcohol, gambling, prostitution, the men part of it, of the prostitution.And of course, the women are hooked on drugs themselves, and that’s why they sell their bodies. And it’s a revolving circle, all based on morality and not following what’s in the Bible and what God tells us to do. And you can, like I said, you can go to war with any Venezuelan fishing boat, if that’s what they are or not, or the Chinese or the Mexicans or whoever is doing the drugs, the poppy fields in Afghanistan.You can go after all of those drug dealers, all you want, but the Americans will find a way to get their vice. Someone will get it to them. And it’s like the mafia, or in our case, it’s probably the actual United States government.
Remember the CIA was running drugs for guns. And back in the Ryan Contra times and through Mina, Arkansas airport that was run by Bill Clinton’s brother, just think about what that all implicated about government involvement in the drug trade in America, and if they’re still there or not, because I believe they are. It seems to me, before we take this next break, it seems to me that back in the 1920s, 30s, and 40s, the government did everything they could to stop the mafia.The mafia were killing people, they were intimidating people, and they were racketeering, and they were frightening the socks off of all Americans that they dealt with. Well, the government learned something back in the 1950 Kefauver hearings in Congress. They learned, basically, this is Bob Barney coming up with this, you’re not going to read this anywhere else, I don’t believe, or hear it anywhere else, but the government came up with this idea.We could be like the mafia, and guess what? If we kill somebody, we don’t go to jail. We can put a mafia leader in jail if he kills an arrival or a citizen who didn’t pay up their bills, but if we send in the guard, or we send in the police force, or we kill our enemies, it’s the government. We have a right to do anything we want to do.
We can break any law we want to break and find a way to write an executive order or something to cover it, and that is what’s happening, and we have a corrupt government, we have a corrupt newspaper and media press, we have corrupt churches, yes, churches, and we have corrupt American citizens and business leaders, and this is all what God prophesied would happen to America. The last topic I want to get into before the end of the show today about the demoralization of America, the drug situation, the economic situation, there is also a moral situation when it comes to relationships, family, business practices, the morality that God teaches us to practice in the Bible and in the Ten Commandments.
As Jesus Christ summed up when it was asked, the two greatest commandments that sums up all the law of God is love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your might, and your neighbor as you love yourself, and if you do those two things, he said, you have followed all of the law of the Bible. Very easy to figure out what the law of the Bible is you’re supposed to follow because Jesus told you. There is no love of our neighbor.There is no people to look up to today. Most of the time what we have today is a situation that Jesus warned us about, about so many people having children out of wedlock, so many people going from lover to lover on both sides, people who think there’s nothing wrong with homosexuality, people who think there’s nothing wrong with adultery, people who think if it feels good, do it. What harm can it do? All of these liberalizations of the American moral code that’s happened through the last 75 years, it started in Hollywood.I like to watch a lot of the old TV shows and a lot of the old movies and I will say a lot of the old TV shows were very moral until the 1970s when we started to see a breakdown in the morality in TV shows. There were many TV shows in the 1950s and 60s that had a good Christian message, but most of the movies starting in the 1930s and the 1940s, when you watch a lot of these movies, they really promoted sexual freedom of women and men, of adultery, of affairs, and just basic liberalization of every moral code you find in the Bible. And it’s very easy to be very liberal when you say, oh, I don’t care what they do in their bedroom, but you don’t understand what they’re doing in their bedroom is causing your health insurance to go up by 50% over every five years because you’re paying for a very small amount of people not following God’s laws that are costing you money out of your pocket and you’re too ignorant because the government has left you ignorant to know it.
The liberalization also of people trying to be hip, mod, or however you want to say it. You watch these TV shows. I love to watch a lot of these crime dramas on TV and you see this beautiful 20-year-old blonde girl and she’s been found savagely murdered and the father is saying we just couldn’t figure out who did it.We had no idea and the police went through lead after lead and they couldn’t find a good clue and they were looking for some kind of a lab evidence, maybe a fingerprint or some DNA left behind. Who could have killed this beautiful young college girl found beaten to death? And then all of a sudden by the end of the TV show, you know, 50 minutes into the hour show, we see her boyfriend and he’s some, and I know this is going to sound bad. It’s going to sound racist on my part.I’m sorry that it does. I’m just telling you the plain truth. You see some black guy with dreads, with all kinds of tattoos that you hardly can see through his black skin, given some gang sign in a picture with a smile and that was her boyfriend.And it turns out, yeah, he was the one that killed her. And the father says, you know, to the reporter, we are shocked he was such a good kid. Now, any father who saw that thing call on his daughter, who thinks that that person was a really good upstanding citizen, is responsible for their daughter’s death.I’m sorry, but this is the problem when parents want to be friends with their children instead of parents to their children, as God tells you to do. You have to discriminate, not by race, not by most things that people think of racism. You have to discriminate based on what people’s appearance is like.
If you see a person who is always sloppily dressed, he’s always dirty. He never washes his hands. He never brushes his teeth.He’s always kind of like smelling. You kind of know he’s not the right person for your daughter, but you don’t want to say that about somebody who is obviously a gang member and a troublemaker and who had a history of crimes. Then you find out the same person, by the way, that everybody, including the police, is shocked that did this horrible deed.You find out that this person had five, six assault charges in the past, that he got away with every one of them in the court system, but nobody ever suspected this was the person from day one. Yet some guy who’s married to a woman for 43 years and she’s found dead in her bathtub, he’s the first suspect, even though he was five miles away. Everyone will tell you they had a great love affair, and the police spend all of their time trying to prove this guy was the murderer when he wasn’t.But when they have an obvious murderer in front of them with a long history of crimes, they say, oh no, he had a good alibi. His mother vouched that he was home. Mothers don’t lie for their kids, right? You see this time and time again.
If you don’t watch these crime shows, I really suggest you start watching them because I think you’ll get an education of what’s wrong with America. Parents don’t want to be parents. They want to be their kid’s best friend.My brother, my oldest brother who just passed away, was a psychologist and he always said, we don’t have bad parenting in America. We have no parenting in America. Parents don’t want to be parents anymore.They want to be the best friend of their children. They want to have good times with them. They want to go out drinking with them.They want to go out, have fun with them like they’re their best friend. That is not a parent’s job. And you read the Bible and you learn how to be a parent.And you do, you become a parent by following God’s principles and applying strict behavior to your children. You know, the idea that God tells you that if you are easy on your children and you don’t spank them in a roundabout way, there’s no such quote, but it’s a very close quote to this, you hate your children if you do not show them discipline. You actually hate your children because you are leading them to destruction according to the creator God who created you, me and everything you see in this world.
You think God knows something that you don’t know? Unfortunately, too many Americans think that they know more than what God knows and they’re not going to follow his laws. And then you have preachers and ministers and priests coming along saying, well, you don’t have to follow these laws because Jesus Christ abolished the laws. They preach lawlessness.No wonder why our government practices lawlessness and our population is suffering from the effects of lawlessness. That is the problem America faces and I hope someone, some people can start returning to God, this country as a whole, as a just start as a small group to start realizing that the solutions to every problem we have in this country is not Donald Trump. It is not some Democrat politician.It wasn’t Barack Obama. It wasn’t even Ronald Reagan, though I think he’s the greatest president of my lifetime. It is a nation who will return to their God and worship their God and listen to their God and do what their God tells them to do and live the life God tells them to live.And guess what? This country would turn around overnight and be blessed like we haven’t seen a blessing in some 75 years. Well, that’s the show for today from Florida.
