Hi, it’s Bob Barney with a 7:11 short…and this one’s a real quick one about Donald Trump, the visa situation, H-1B and Elon Musk.
Over the weekend, of course, there became a widening schism between them and a lot of the MAGA followers.
You know, I’ve written articles about many MAGA followers that I refer to as ever-Trumpers who are sometimes worse than the never-Trumpers. Why? Because they think they know everything. Most of these people do not even know their history.
These visas are not the same thing as what we have with the illegal aliens running over the American border in droves without us not knowing a thing about them…whether they’re criminals or anything of the sort. Musk made a post that the H-1B visas should be continued and not be a part of the deportation program…not causing it to cease. What many people don’t understand history wise is that these types of people have special skills.
We have many doctors over here from Pakistan and from overseas that are absolutely great doctors. Because the American Medical Association limits the number of doctors that can actually come out of medical school, people don’t know that we have a doctor shortage in America and that we need these people from overseas if they can pass all of the tests. They tend to be very good at what they do.
Also, did you know that we were put on the moon by a former Nazi missile rocket scientist, Wernher von Braun? When the war came to an end, we raced to get him making sure the Russians did not get him first because the Americans knew that this man could put us in outer space! That he would someday put us onto other planets or on the moon or wherever…and that’s exactly what he did.
The Americans were not who put us on the moon. It was because of the brains of Wernher von Braun.
The problem with some of these MAGA people is they are just simply not willing to understand that they are not the majority of America. Now I just to want to say something, I support a moratorium on all immigration for a year or two until we get our hands around this. This happened before in history, back in the 1920s, and I’ll give you a little primer.
Migration, unbridled migration started in America in the 1840s when the Irish, the Catholic Irish immigrants after the potato famine in Ireland, came to America in droves and they really could not assimilate. This was a WASP, an Anglo-Saxon-Protestant, white Anglo-Saxon-Protestant country, and Catholics were not welcome. In many places Catholics were outlawed even in New England after the Constitution was signed, believe it or not. They did not assimilate very well, and they ended up mainly as people in the military.
Most of your soldiers that died, for example, were in the Battle of The Little Bighorn with George Custer. They were Irish Americans and immigrants, by the way, and they were drunken brawler fighters. Many towns out west would not allow the local soldiers from the local fort to go into town on a Saturday night to frequent their saloons because they were always troublemakers…always getting into fights.
Then the next great wave of immigration that really changed America was in the 1880s into the 1920s when the great Italian immigration occurred. This was where tens of millions of Italian immigrants flooded into the American borders and like the Irish, they did not even want to assimilate at first.
Now before I’m accused of being a racist, I’m one quarter Italian. My grandmother was actually born on a boat on the way over from Italy, from Milan actually so I know what I’m talking about. I had relatives, my grandmother’s relatives, who could not even speak English and they were in their 90s. Those who could barely speak English stayed amongst themselves. Then what happened in 1920 was that the Republicans in Congress and the presidency, they limited the flow of immigration for a few years because they said there was too much immigration into Americ. They were concerned that we just could not assimilate all those people at one time.
I am at that point right now.
I think if Donald Trump said I’m not against immigration and I’m for immigration and these visas, but at the same time we really have to limit how many immigrants we allow in until we swallow the number that we have here while we rid our country of the criminals…, I could see that as wise. One of the big mistakes I think Donald Trump is already making in this presidency is he is assuming that he has a mandate. He has no such mandate at all. If he had a mandate, he would have brought six, seven extra senators with him and we’d have 20, 30, 40, even 50 extra congresspeople in Congress. He did not have a mandate. This was an anti-Kamala vote, nor was it was an anti-Biden vote…it was a pocketbook vote. I do believe that many Americans are not in agreement with a lot of things Donald Trump wants to do. I think every single American or 75% of all Americans would like to see all of the criminal illegals deported and never allowed to come back and I think they all want the border to be closed. I do not believe that the majority of the Americans, I would say into 60 percentile or higher, think that all of the illegal immigrants who work hard, pay their taxes, and do the right thing need to be sent back. I don’t even believe they can be sent back. I think it’s a waste of time. I don’t think the courts will allow it either and I don’t think the Supreme Court will allow it. If this is the case, why waste time and energy when you can spend your next year or two just going after the murderers, felons, rapists and those committing the store robberies…the people like that who came over the border. There are hundreds of thousands of those people.
That will take all of the Trump administration probably four years to handle. The idea that we are going to be able to get rid of all these 15, 20 million that came in here, it’s just not going to happen.
We need to stop immigration for a while.
We need to swallow what we can do, send back what we can send back, and find a way to assimilate those we can’t send back.
I am glad, by the way, that Donald Trump just came out and agreed with Musk that we do need these H-1B visas and that they are critical for the restructuring of America’s technology, of science, and stuff like that.
I’m probably going to talk more about this as the week goes on, but I wanted to start this day off with a real brief report on why we have to have some immigration.
America is a country of immigrants.
I saw a funny thing on Facebook the other day. They had the Indian who was on One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, the big guy, and he was holding up a picture of what Sid and Bullet looked like and said, if your forefathers did not look like this and wear these kinds of feathers, you are probably an immigrant, and most Americans are immigrants.
