Good morning, this is Bob Barney with The Plain Truth Today on Memorial Day. Yes, today is Memorial Day which always occurs on the last Monday in the month of May. Memorial Day originally was called Decoration Day and that was following the Civil War honoring first only Union soldiers that died in that war. It was honored on May 30th, 1868. The holiday was proclaimed by commander in chief John A Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic. The Grand Army of the Republic is the Association of all Union soldiers.
You have to remember; the American Civil War was probably the greatest tragedy to America that we have ever faced up until then and since then to this day. This was when brother fought against brother and father against son…cousin against cousin…it was an awful war and, in my opinion, an unnecessary war at that. Many people died on both sides. originally it was only for Union soldiers but then later on Confederate soldiers were added to the memorial.
On June 3rd in 1861 before the first Memorial Day in Warrington VA was where the first Civil War grave of a soldier was decorated. This was for the funeral of the first soldier killed John Quincy Mar. He died in a skirmish on June 1 at the Battle at Fairfax Courthouse in Virginia.
Memorial Day is a day that honors what soldiers did then, but it got morphed into other wars that we were in and we found ourselves after WWI and WWII really revitalizing Memorial Day.
There are two other days Armed Services Day in early May and Veterans Day on November 11 which is celebrated as a national holiday and very important to remember. Veterans Day came after WWI to honor the dead of that war as well but has turned into honoring all of the soldier’s death of this country.
Memorial Day is still the major holiday unfortunately most people really do not take this day as a day they want to remember their soldiers unless they are really in the military. Most people see this as a backyard BBQ day to drink a lot of beer and have a lot of fun but I hope that you do not follow that example of recklessness because a lot of injuries and death happen on Memorial Day. we are talking 1) especially drunk driving incidents and deaths and 2) lighting propane grills that they haven’t lit in a long time, the clicker doesn’t work, a match is used, and a mini explosion happens and as a result facial and hand burns that can be pretty serious.
I hope that all of the listeners out there and your families follow safe practices for lighting grills and do not drive drunk. Make sure that you remember certain things about this day…I don’t have a problem with people following certain holidays, but I do have a problem with people following pagan holidays and put Christ’s name on them. If you have listened to this show you know what I think about Christmas and Easter…but the soldiers that fought and died for us did so that we could have our own pagan holidays and worship them and celebrate them or not, and to have the liberty to do the things in this country that has never been allowed on the face of the earth until this country was founded by our patriotic Forefathers….they understood the need for liberty and they said that liberty and freedom and democracy can only occur with a moral Christian people. John Adams was one of the famous Founders who said that. You cannot have this form of government and be crooks, dishonest, immoral, or basically be of most other religions because this form of government was a blessing from God.
We should really realize that we have this significant day because of a promise that God gave to Jacob and Abraham and later to Joseph his son…and that we are great because of this promise. Joseph would produce the two most powerful, best and blessed nations by God before the coming of Christ and of course those two nations are the United Kingdon, Great Britian, and the United State of America…we are the Lost Tribes of Israel.
I spoke about this last Friday and how people do not understand that the Bible does give clues about the prophesies concerning America, which is “Israel”…England, France, Europe in general, Assyria which is Germany, and it does talk about China and Russia and Japan.
Anyways, this is a day that we should at least take some time to remember our fallen hero’s…those people who died and that we can have liberty and we could have the right of a free trial of our peers and the right to a fair trial and that we would have everything going for us that would protect us form a totalitarian government which I am afraid we are morphing in to right now.
Let’s look at the trial Donald Trump is being put through…it is totally unconstitutional, he does not have the protection of the 6th, 7th, and 8th Amendments for pities sakes and many people who hate Trump do not see a problem with this but I have news for you…you are going to see a problem with it when it happens to you and you find out that the precedent that is being set by this totalitarian government in the process of being formed by the Democrat party is a travesty that is coming for yours and my individual freedoms and rights. These are freedoms and rights not only given to us by the Bill of Rights and the Constitution but the Creator God themselves; both the Father and the Son.
Remember that this country has been blessed because of the God Almighty of your Bible!! That God is made up of two beings, the Father God and the Jesus Christ God…they make up the Godhead and they bless this nation because of a fulfilled promise they gave to Abraham some 4000 years ago. We are on the verge of just trashing our rights and what our soldiers have fought to give us, what our government was to be about…what our Forefathers argued over and realized the form of government and type of people this form of government needed to make work…so when you go and have your hamburgers and hotdogs and beverages, have fun with your family, stay safe but at the same time remember what this day means for your liberty…for your freedom, and for your destiny.
I am quite fearful, I will admit this right now, that we are on the verge of losing all of our liberties. We are going into, transforming into I should say, a totalitarian state led by the democratic party and some RINO Republicans especially under the Biden Administration. The rule of law is gone. The illegal aliens have more rights than natural born citizens. We are working out lives away in order to feed people who do not work and who do not want to work because our government is giving away our fortunes through taxations and really without representation anymore. We are on very very bad grounds, and this is a Memorial Day and many more Memorial days to come, we need to start remembering the blessings that God Almighty gave to this country and the blessings that soldiers died for.
We should remember that most of the soldiers that died so that you could have the right to honor this day and the liberties that you have, died when they were either teenagers or in their 20’s… they didn’t even live their lives yet however they had the fortitude to risk their lives for the people of this country who they did not even know personally. That is what Jesus says is the greatest act of love that one can do, is to lay their life down for another…as Christ did for us, these soldiers who died in the various wars to protect our rights and our liberties did so to help strangers that they did not know, have the freedoms that we have today. I think we should take time out from our great day off from the hard labor and yes, this is like a Labor Day in a way because it is a day that the whole country basically takes off, although a few people have to work on Memorial Day…but it is a time to rest from the hard work, for those Americans that are still working as you know 38% of Americans are living off the government teat of money that someone else like you and I have provided for them…that forces our food to go up, inflation is running rampant, we are working more hours a week as a people since the 1900’s when we needed unions to stop kids from working in coal mines and women in factories where the doors were chained shut so that when fires broke out they were burned to death. Why? Because the billionaires of that time like the Bezo’s and the Bill Gates of our time that you think are liberal are really not, they want a totalitarian government like China has. They want to turn you into China and like their slaves to make their purpose happen. I think it is time we wake up as a people, on this day in fact, and remember that there are people who have died for us and there are people who are still standing up for us right now, fighting for us…in the military and not in the military. Like Donald Trump, he is fighting for your rights because what is happening to him is going to happen to you next if you stand up against a totalitarian government that is going to shut you up, put you in chains, in jail, or murder you on legal grounds because they will make it legal.
So, on this day enjoy yourselves and stay safe and remember who brought you this day…namely the soldier that died for you and the Lord God Almighty, the Father and Son who made it possible.
