Does God say anything about emotionally or mentally abusive parents? Are we still supposed to honor them?  What does the only commandment with a promise attached to it really mean?

Do you always honor your father and mother ass the 5th commandment says?

Hi, this is Bob Barney with the Plain Truth Today.com.

I am answering a question someone sent to me which is, “are we always obligated to honor our father and mother?”…it is the 5th Commandment, after all. It is also the only Commandment that has a promise, specifically…children obey our parents in the Lord, for this is right, “honor your father and your mother”, this is the first commandment with a promise, “it will go well with you and you may live a long life in the land”…then it continues, “fathers do not provoke your children to anger but bring them up in a disciplined way with instructions of the Lord. That is an important concept because we are told to honor them, but we are not told to honor them if they are drug addicts or to follow them in suit…to honor our father and mother in a way that pleases God is the goal, and it pleases God to show respect to your elders.

Today, unfortunately, too many of the younger generations do not see wisdom in their parents and grandparents. Instead, they see people who are flawed in many ways, and they seem, or they think they have all of the answers to life’s problems. The Plain Truth is they have never gone through what their parents and grandparents have gone through in their lives. This is quite new in my opinion…at least when I grew up, I honored my mother and father…of course I had a very good set of parents. I didn’t have a father who was an alcoholic or a mother who ran around town getting into trouble…so that might have made it easier to honor them, but for the most part, today, things are a little different. I think this because of the computer age and the internet age where younger people take to this new technology quicker and easier than older people…although I do know people in their 70s and 80s who are great with the internet and programming, etc. But, for the most part, if you take a 6-year-old for petes sake and you give them an iPhone and they can figure it out and find things to do with it in an instant…and you have had to phone for 4 years and you didn’t even know it did the things they found it could do.

The youth of today believe they are superior to their parents as if they have information that makes them so. But getting back to the point of honoring your father and mother and when you should do so and maybe when you should not.

It was very important to God and there are reasons why it is in the Ten Commandments and important to God. Some Jewish leaders arrived in Jerusalem and asked Jesus a question…”why do your disciples disobey the ancient Jewish traditions…for they ignore the ritual cleaning of hand washing before they eat”. Jesus looked at them and replied, “And why do your traditions violate the direct commandment of God?”. For instance, God’s Law is that you are to honor your father and your mother and anyone who reviles their parents must die…but you say, even if your parents are in need, you may give their support to the church instead and so by doing so your manmade rule nullifies the direct commandment of God to honor and care for your parents. You are hypocrites and well did Isaiah speak of you when he said these people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far away from Me. Their worship is worthless for they do nothing but teach manmade traditions”. And most churches preach today, churchianity which is all surrounding the manmade traditions of this country and this world.

One of the Jewish leaders said, “good master, what should I do to inherit eternal life?’ Notice by the way I like to say this every time I read this, Jesus didn’t say, “hey man, you already have eternal life, it is a matter of if you are going to spend it in heaven or hell if you die…! No, He didn’t say that He said IF you are to enter into eternal life, notice he said “IF”? “OBEY THE COMMANDMENTS”. So, the guy says, “Which ones?” and Jesus starts by saying, “don’t kill, don’t commit adultery, don’t steal, don’t lie and honor your father and your mother and love your neighbor as yourself”.

Jesus thought that was quite important to put in honor your father and your mother as something He should say and in what commandments you are supposed to follow. Of course you are supposed to honor all ten. Some church people think that because he didn’t mention the Saturday Sabbath in that part of scripture it means that you don’t have to obey that commandment and that He did away with it. He also by the way, didn’t mention not to use the Lord’s name in vain, but that doesn’t give you the license to-do so.

there are basic principles as to why God put the 5th Commandment and makes such a big deal about it. God has given authority over the created order. The first is God the Father, it is a family type of a role if you notice that…and Jesus was His equal and became His Son…He became the savior of us all…God likens His creation of man, which is in God’s own image, as we are going to become gods at the moment of our resurrection. But the family unit is the pivotal cornerstone of the unit that keeps the entire civilized world afloat. When you can break down the family unit, you can break down society. You can also break down just about everything else… God realizes that it was very important to maintain a family unit. Also, honoring our parents is another way that we honor God because we are obeying Him when we do so. God is ultimately our Father. The church is ultimately our mother, and we are to honor, love, cherish and obey them. When we do so with our parents, we are being structured in a way of learning how to obey obedience.

The question that people are going to ask me is, “what happens if my parents are not godly people?”. What if someone says their father doesn’t even believe in God, he beats everyone in the house and the mom is very promiscuous and a bad example for everyone. What is the answer, Bob? My answer is quite simple, Gods law does not force a child to honor any evil instruction that their parent give them to do. A child can only obey a family’s instruction when those instructions that the parents are asking for pleases the will of God. We know what the will of God is, and we know what pleases Him. If our parents are telling us to do certain things to please God, then we should be honoring our parents. Why? Because they are trying to put us on the right road. If our parents are telling us that we don’t want to follow the God of the Bible and that He is fake and that we came from monkeys, God is nonexistent and demand we don’t believe in Him, well that is not not honoring your parents if you decide not to listen to that advice.

Ultimately your father is the Father God in Heaven and not the father that created you with his sperm. A sperm donor can be a good father, but he is not ultimately THE Father. The Father is the God that we know as God the Father.

Honoring your parents does have another meaning and has implications for parents because we see as Paul explains, “Father do not provoke your children to anger but bring them up with discipline and instruction in the Lord. See, God has given parents a great responsibility to be like God to their children. IT is a good story back in Exodus when God who is Jesus, is talking to Moses about letting his people go out of Egypt and talking to the Pharoah, “I am going to make you Moses like God to the pharaoh”. When you read that you might think that God let someone else be God to the pharaoh but actually if you are a parent, your role is to play God to your infant children and to raise them up believing in the truth God and making the right decisions. If you fail to do so and you are actually harming your children relationship with Jesus Christ and God the Father, then you are not to honor their wishes and do evil things yourself. However there is a caveat to that and this is my opinion, you can look this up, especially when Paul speaks…but even if your parents may not be good people and may err in many ways and you decide by your relationship with God Almighty Himself that you are not going to obey your parents or follow their evil ways, you are still to respect that they are your parents.

I want to get back to a story from last week when I shared that I was not happy with Marjorie Taylor Greene’s reaction to Bidens speech to Congress of the State of the Union. I believe in the sanctity of an office. Biden is a evil criminal, gangster type mafioso leader who belongs in jail…however, when he is standing up in Congress as the representative of the President of the USA, that office requites respect and decorum. So, if I were sitting in that room when the president of the USA showed up, no matter who he is I would show respect. Would i clap if I think he is wrong? NO. I would be emotionless but I would NOT sit there and cause disrespect to the office of the presidency. This is the beginning of not being civilized and taking our country down a road that there is no coming back from.

This is the same when we think on our parents. We are to show them respect of them being parents, that doesn’t mean though that we cannot be against what they say to do if it is against God. We are told to prayer for our enemy. Well, if our parents have because they don’t believe in our God, we are to pray for them and be grateful that we are alive and a creature of God. We are a spark of life from our father’s sperm and our mother’s egg, we became a living being because of God Almighty with the possibility and live a good life and believe in Christ and obey His commandments, we will have eternal life as God’s children.

You know what? Your parents gave you that opportunity when they had sex and created you. IF that is the only good thing they never have done in their whole life and you turn out to be a good person and turned out to be someone who saves thousands of people during a holocaust or your words convert scores of people to believe that Jesus Christ is God and your Savior, then your parents population together creating you, ends up being a miracle.

You should at least give credit to that miracle of conception that God was behind you being born and you following God’s will doing God’s work. That is the simplest way I can explain about that you are to honor your father and mother, hopefully you have good parents that you can follow easily but even if you do not, you have to realized that there is a structure in heaven that acquires authority, and the family unit is the ultimate authority on this earth under God. By obeying your parents and honoring them that is why the 5th Commandment has a promise that you will have a long life.

So that is my answer to that question. I want to touch on this again…if you have a question that you would liek answered, please send me the question…I will even do a show like this one here on the topic and question you bring up. I don’t have all the answers obviously, but there are things that God does that I don’t like, but I still will honor him because he is my parent. I am going to honor their will, as best as I can, and I am going to ask for forgiveness when I can. There are things I do not understand because of my very small mind. All human beings have a small mind compared to the mind of God. His mind is so incomprehensible to us, we cannot figure out why God does allow certain things.

But I do enjoy people sending questions because a lot of them have simple answers that most churches and authorities and biblical scholars try to make more complicated than they are. The more complicated they make an answer the more you depend on them for the answer. So, I was happy to answer what honoring your father and mother means, as it is the basic unit that keeps the entire world put together that God created since the inception of Mankind. Even in Heaven there is a hierarchy with God. At one time, Yahweh, Jesus Christ, the God of the Old Testament, was equal to God the Father. And as an act of love to us, for us, their children, Jesus Christ stepped out of the role of being equal to the Father and became a human being through a birth canal of a human women. He became a man who became a sinless life. He was killed and butchered and tortured for our sins. He also was resurrected on the 3rd day by the Father God as promised back to life again, and now He is the God under God the Father, sitting at hte right hand of God the Father. That God, Jesus Christ, the one we know from the Old Testament that was so powerful that destroyed the country of Egypt and drowned all of the soldiers in the red sea…that most powerful God because He loves us so much, stepped down from His role and became subservient to the Father God…now known as our Father. This way we could learn how to be subservient to our elders.

This is why the 5th Commandment is so important to honoring our parents, because our parents represent and symbolize both God the Father and the love that Jesus Christ has for us to do for us what has been accomplished. He stepped down from HIs ultimate authority and took on the mantle of human frailness and the suffering at the hand of evil people. This brought us back into the family of God, as children of God to become God one day when we are born again at His return of the resurrection of the dead.

This way we become subservient to t them and look up to a man to give us the answer then the Word of God that we can read easily…yes there are problems with all translations including the King James translation but for the most part, any translation of the Bible that you read with all the mistakes that may be in them, will give you the gist of what it is to be a real Christian and a follower of God the Father and Jesus Christ. This way we understand how to become their children and how to have a wonderful world tomorrow when we are born agin into the family of God.

I would now like to take a few minutes here to go over again the focus of The Plain Truth. The Plain Truth dot com is a news site, we are not a religion. We do not take advertisement like most newspapers do because we do not want to be beholden to anyone. So, the only company that supports The Plain Truth is my wife’s and my paint company. I say it over and over, it doesn’t matter what happened yesterday if it doesn’t help you to live Tomorrow. Frankly, it is better to know what is going to happen yesterday. You know a tornado destroying a town out in the mid-west yesterday is not going to help me if you are in turn to get one tomorrow and your life ends.

Wouldn’t it be nice to listen to a news broadcast that can predict the future. Now we cannot predict when the next tornado is going to hit and keep you alive that way, but we can say if you stay with God, He has the power to protect you from such tragedy, but we cannot predict that news. There is news that we can predict and know it is going to happen because the Bible tells us so…Jesus tells us in His own words in the Old and the New Testament, which The Plain Truth Red Letter Bible (link to kindle version as well) of ours, you can get it on Amazon, in print though, it is five volumes and it is very expensive, we make about 2 dollars a book, we are not trying to make money is my point…but we have Jesus’ words in red in the old and the New Testament…something which no one has done. Why? Because people don’t realize that the God speaking in the Old Testament is Jesus Christ and not God the Father. You can easily prove this fact when Jesus Christ says plainly that no man has ever heard the voice of the Father or seen His form at any time expect the Son, who comes from the Father. Well, if no man has never heard the voice of God nor have seen His form, then who is the God talking to Abraham??? Who did Abraham talk to, relate to and see?? Who was the presence of God that went by Moses on the mountain so Moses could see His hind quarters because HE was so brilliant to see, or Moses would have died to see Him in His whole Godly state. IT wasn’t the Father according to Christ. Who is the God that spoke to the prophets, who wrote the Ten Commandments with His own finger? It is nonother then Jesus Christ in His preexistence form as the Lord Yahweh of the Old Testament. He is the God of the Old Testament, the old mean God that ordered the execution of scores of children and women…is the same being that became Jesus Christ, the God you think is the God of nothing but LOVE. W

You have a very shocking time coming when Christ returns and you find out that He is not the effeminate, all loving gentle person that HE is portrayed byt he churches and the devil himself.

The God of the Old Testament is Jesus Christ. IF you want to know Jesus Christ’s real nature, you need to read not only the New Testament where He explains Himself better maybe, but you need to read the Old Testament from where He came from…because the God speaking in the Old Testament is Jesus Christ.

The Plain Truth is trying to give you the words that are important to you because we are telling you what your destiny is. We are telling you that we know there is going to be a temple built in Jerusalem. That is news. We know there is going to be a Unified Europe under a beast called the Antichrist, a leader. We know that the is going to get his power form the Vatican, the Holy Roman Empire…we know there is going to be a King of the South, made up of a united states of Islamic countries from all of North Africa to the Middle East and again, will have a ruler, a despot, another Hitler type in the south called the King of the South…that is news, that is not religion, that is news, it is going to happen…it is going to and you aren’t going to stop it from happening because God says it is going to happen.
What you can stop is what is going to happen to you and your country…we are behind this June 14th thing, it is on the plain truth every day, click on that, join that, it is Jeremiah3227.com, they are picking any day, but chose June 14th day which is Flag Day, it happens to be DJT’s birthday as well. We are praying for the country and maybe that is a good idea on Flag Day…June 14 we are encouraging you to fast and pray, do the best you can, God is the God who understands the weakness of us all, many people cannot do a fast, but to pray, to humble ourselves and to ask God to save this country from the ruination that we are in today.

I say this often, if you do not think we are not going down the road to hell in a hand basket today, then you are a part of the problem…. because that is where we are headed.

If America continues in the way it is going, it is not going to be very pretty.
