Listen to today’s Noontime Video interview with the Republican nominee for Governor of Virginia

In an age of identity politics and polarized debate, Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears stands out as a leader defined not by labels, but by conviction. The Marine Corps veteran, entrepreneur, and first Black woman ever elected statewide in Virginia has announced her bid for governor – a campaign rooted in faith, freedom, and fierce independence.

Earle-Sears came to the United States from Jamaica as a child with “nothing but grit and a dream,” a phrase that has become both personal motto and political message. Her story – from immigrant to Marine to trailblazing public servant – embodies what she calls “the promise of America.”

“I came to America with nothing but grit and a dream – and that’s still what fuels me every day.”

A Grounded but Uncompromising Vision

Earle-Sears laid out her vision for Virginia in her conversation on The Plain Truth. She is an unapologetic supporter of right-to-work laws, arguing they preserve worker freedom and help keep Virginia competitive.

“Right-to-work is about giving Virginians the choice to earn without coercion.”

On social issues, she reaffirmed her Christian-based opposition to abortion and same-sex marriage while criticizing DEI programs as “political theater.”

“We can’t build a better Virginia by dividing people into boxes. Freedom doesn’t come in colors.”

Standing Firm Amid Controversy

Earle-Sears addressed the Jay Jones controversy that reignited racial debate in the state, calling instead for a unifying vision. “Let’s talk about accountability, opportunity, and freedom – not identity politics.”

Tragedy and Transformation

In one of the episode’s most emotional moments, Earle-Sears opened up about the death of her daughter, sharing how the loss transformed her into a more compassionate leader. “Losing my daughter broke me – but it also reminded me why leadership must begin with compassion.”

Faith, Freedom, and the Future

Her message blends patriotism, personal faith, and a belief in America’s enduring promise.

“My faith and my service as a Marine taught me that courage isn’t the absence of fear – it’s standing firm in spite of it.”

As she steps into the next phase of her career, Earle-Sears is betting that Virginia voters are ready for leadership grounded in principle, not politics. Her journey from Jamaica to the Capitol has already made history – and her run for governor could redefine it once again.
