Regarding “The False Doctrine of the Immortal Soul”
A good bit of my adult life I have read, heard and thought about all the differing opinions regarding what happens when a person dies. I noticed that a lot of people have a very lackadaisical attitude towards the subject while others take a very serious, sober approach knowing full well that their actions can and do influence many people in the rights and wrongs of life. Then some years ago I came to the realization that all the differing viewpoints were just that, differing viewpoints based on selected scriptures that “supposedly” validate the person’s opinion. I did a fairly thorough research on the soul, the spirit, life, death, resurrection and eternal damnation. After the initial research period I came to the conclusion that if I was to have any peace of mind regarding the matter I would read and study only our Savior’s words and how I felt they applied to me. I settled on the following, John 6:63, “It is the Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are Spirit and they are life.” Since then I consciously or subconsciously, (I say subconsciously because I no longer have to remind myself) viewed Holy Scripture as either speaking to the mortal man or speaking to the Holy Spirit in man. It has made all the difference in the world to me.
I conclude with the following observation. Holy Scripture has been drastically subverted over the years, a drop here, a drop there, with the full intention of destroying all that is true, all that is good.
