NEW YORK (PIX11) — The heat and humidity are creating conditions similar to a tropical rainforest across much of the New York City region, producing dangerous weather that officials and health experts are urging residents to take seriously.

The city’s summer temperatures create urban heat islands, making neighborhoods with fewer trees and parks significantly hotter than greener areas. 

Combined with extreme humidity, the conditions become even more dangerous.

This week, New York City’s humidity has been comparable to that of the Amazon rainforest.
