Volodymyr Zelensky has said two days of peace talks with Russia and the US in Abu Dhabi were ‘constructive’, after Putin blasted Kyiv with huge strikes.

‘All parties agreed to report to their capitals on each aspect of the negotiations and to coordinate further steps with their leaders,’ The Ukrainian President wrote on Telegram.

He said that military representatives identified issues for a possible next meeting, which could take place as soon as next week.

The Ukrainian leader said there was ‘an understanding of the need for American monitoring and control of the process of ending the war and ensuring real security’.

US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner participated alongside Ukrainian officials, including chief negotiator Rustem Umerov and military intelligence head Kyrylo Budanov.

Russia sent military intelligence and army representatives, according to Zelensky.

Overnight, Putin staged a series of ferocious new strikes to cripple power and heating supplies in the Ukrainian capital amid the blistering winter cold. The Ukrainian leader said Russia had launched ‘over 370 attack drones and 21 missiles of various types’.

The crude aim of the attack, which left at least one person dead and 23 wounded, was to force Zelensky to cede land to Putin by weaponising the cold and freezing his people into surrender.
