A senior Army strategist and Pentagon advisor isn't sure
about whether the appointment of General David Petraeus as commander of
forces in Afghanistan will ultimately bring victory there.

By
a 99-0 vote last week, the Senate unanimously confirmed General David
Petraeus as the next commander of the Afghanistan war to replace General
Stanley McChrystal, who was sacked because of inflammatory remarks he
and his aides made to
Rolling Stone magazine. As U.S. Central
Command chief, Petraeus was McChrystal's boss and was already overseeing
operations in Afghanistan, but his replacement at Central Command has
