Crucifixion: 'World's best example' found in Cambridgeshire in form of slave with nail in

Archaeologists unearthed the skeleton (right, with a close-up of his pierced heel left) during an excavation at the village of Fenstanton back in 2017 and have just completed their analysis of the grisly find. The skeleton of the man – believed to have been 25-35 at the time of his death – was found in a grave (inset) alongside a timber structure, possibly a 'bier' on which his corpse was placed.
