Rep. Cory Mills (R-Fla.), already the subject of a House Ethics Committee investigation into allegations of personal conduct, including sexual misconduct and/or dating violence, as well as campaign finance violations, financial disclosures, government contracts, and gifts, is now facing a separate criminal probe from the Department of Justice, according to reports from multiple outlets on Tuesday.
Two sources familiar with the matter told MS Now that the DOJ is investigating Mills. A third source indicated that the FBI had contacted at least one person about Mills’ finances, allegations of misconduct, and individuals connected to him.
Sources told ABC News the investigation focuses in part on his finances. It focuses on his finances, with interest in alleged overseas business dealings, per NBC.
When contacted Tuesday, Mills responded via text: “I know nothing about it.” In a follow-up phone conversation, he said it was the first time he was hearing about the investigation and that he believed it stemmed from the ongoing House Ethics Committee probe. He noted that the Federal Election Commission (FEC) had dismissed the campaign-related allegations.
The Ethics Committee’s investigation, which remains active, has been digging deep for months. In May 2026, the Committee stated it had authorized more than 20 subpoenas, contacted dozens of witnesses, and collected thousands of documents. The probe is examining whether Mills may have:
- Engaged in misconduct with respect to allegations of sexual misconduct and/or dating violence (including a February 2025 domestic incident reported to D.C. police and a July 2025 case in which he allegedly threatened blackmail by releasing explicit images of a romantic partner, leading to an October 2025 Florida court-issued restraining order granted to an ex-girlfriend)
- Failed to properly disclose required information on his financial disclosure statements.
- Violated campaign finance laws and regulations in his 2022 and 2024 campaigns.
- Improperly solicited and/or received gifts, including in connection with privately sponsored officially-connected travel.
- Received special favors by virtue of his position
- Misused congressional resources or status.
Mills is running for reelection in Florida’s 7th Congressional District, with the Republican primary scheduled for August 18.
At this time, despite all the allegations, no charges have been filed against him. The DOJ and FBI have declined to comment, according to multiple outlets.
As more details emerge from both the congressional and federal probes, it’s clear this story is far from over.
