Cruise ship passengers who booked an extended voyage to avoid President Donald Trump’s second term now face an unexpected disruption in Cambodia, according to a report published by WND.

Cruise Ship Passengers Face an Unexpected Exit

WND reports that passengers aboard the Villa Vie Odyssey paid substantial sums for a lengthy stay at sea. Some chose the voyage as a way to spend Trump’s presidency outside the United States.

However, the report says the company ran out of money. It then instructed approximately 200 passengers to leave the ship in Cambodia and arrange their own accommodations and travel home.

For those who had made the ship their home, the announcement created immediate uncertainty.

A Couple’s Investment in Life at Sea

Citing Reuters, Unruh describes the experience of Paul and Lynn Montoya of Colorado. The couple reportedly sold their home and cars before purchasing a cabin aboard the ship.

According to the account, they paid $179,000 for the cabin, plus another $6,000 each month in fees.

Their stay lasted 17 months. Then, the report says, they received instructions to gather their belongings and pets and disembark.

An Uncertain Journey Home

The announcement left cruise ship passengers facing unexpected expenses and new travel arrangements. Those who had sold their homes also faced questions about where they would live next.
