“SCOTUS LIMITS Arizona voters’ ability to register without providing proof of citizenship. The court was ultimately divided on the issue. The order notes that Thomas, Alito Gorsuch would have granted the application in full yet Kagan, Sotomayer, Barrett and Jackson would have denied it in full. Amy Coney Barrett said she would stop any state from requiring proof of citizenship for any election. The decision means that voters who attempt to vote without proof of citizenship using Arizona’s voter registration form will be rejected moving forward, HOWEVER, voters who attempt to sign up to cast ballots using the federal form without providing proof of citizenship will STILL be registered. The Opinion rejected requests to block so-called, “federal-only” voters from casting ballots in the presidential race, and to block those voters from voting by mail. Supreme Court Strikes a Blow to Illegal Aliens Registering to Vote
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Thursday that a new Arizona law — which requires individuals to provide proof of citizenship in order to register to vote — can go into effect immediately.
The Republican National Committee is celebrating the decision as a win for election integrity.
“This is a major victory for election integrity that upholds a simple principle: American elections must be decided by American citizens. While Democrats have worked to undermine basic election safeguards and make it easier for non-citizens to vote, we have fought tooth and nail to preserve citizenship requirements, see the law enforced, and secure our elections. The Supreme Court has sided with the RNC, and the American people, to protect the vote in November,” RNC Chairman Michael Whatley released in a statement.
