The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed early Tuesday after being hit by a container ship — sending cars plunging into the water in what was quickly declared a mass-casualty event.
Six people are unaccounted for and two have been rescued, authorities said during a press conference around 10 a.m. ET.

The six missing people in the Baltimore bridge collapsed are construction workers who were repairing the span when it was struck by a large cargo ship Tuesday morning.
The construction workers were repairing potholes on the Francis Scott Key Bridge overnight when the Dali cargo ship rammed into one of the bridge’s supports, Maryland Transportation Secretary Paul Wiedefeld said during a news conference.
