It was early Sunday morning and the Sabbath had passed. Some of His devoted disciples, including Mary Magdalene from whom He had cast out seven devils, came to His tomb to anoint His body. To their bewilderment, He was nowhere to be found. They discussed among themselves who would have moved the massive stone that blocked the entrance to where He was buried. As they pondered their dilemma, an angel appeared and offered the most pleasant and comforting words their ears could have heard: "He is risen; He is not here" (Mark 16:6). How excited they were, not only to hear those words of relief; but to go and tell the others, as was directed by the angel.
Those words, He is Risen, are enduring beyond His disciples broadest imaginations. They echo down through the ages along the corridors of salvation history. Calvary, the story of Jesus the Only Messiah, has forever changed the course of human history. Unlike any other in the annals of the human family, Jesus' Passion, as it is called, has transformed more hearts, changed unnumbered societies and has impacted the full spectrum of the human family like none other has. The reverberations of those words uttered by the angel continue to be felt today, almost 2000 years later. But, how many understand their true meaning? Read more.
