WINSTON-SALEM — Trudie Martin, who was born Oct. 19, 1901, is pleasantly surprised to have made it to 108.
"You live until the Lord calls you home," she said. "I had a good time all my life."
Martin
has lived a life in which the Lord comes first and caring for others
comes next. When the kids in the neighborhood were ready for a snack,
they knew where to find a slice of freshly baked pound cake. At church,
she helped out in the nursery. When people needed someone to sit with a
