US Embassy in Tehran remains time capsule of Iran hostage

The US Embassy in Tehran (pictured) remains frozen in the Islamic Hostage Crisis in 1979 (picture inset, students storming the gate). It contains parts of teletype machines which were destroyed by diplomats who were kept there for 444 days. Islamic students scaled the brick gate's fence on November 4, 1979, which has become famous for its anti-American murals today. This was just nine months after Marxist rivals had done the same on February 14. The Great Seal of the United States on the outside wall has been defaced but another still is undamaged above the entryway of the compound's chancery.
